ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 152 BY REPRESENTATIVE ORTEGO A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To urge and request the office of facility planning and control and the office of state buildings to study the use of products which have been determined to have low volatile organic compound (VOC) content in the maintenance, renovation, or construction of public buildings and report the findings to the Legislature of Louisiana no later than December 31, 2012. WHEREAS, VOCs are emitted as gases from products such as paints, wood finishes, floor coatings, sealers, shellacs, stains, carpeting, and adhesives; and WHEREAS, VOCs may cause adverse health effects such as eye, nose, and throat irritation, headaches, nausea, and damage to organs and the central nervous system; and WHEREAS, products are available for use in the maintenance, renovation, or construction of buildings which have been determined to have low VOC content. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the office of facility planning and control and the office of state buildings to study the use of products which have been determined to have low VOC content in the maintenance, renovation, or construction of public buildings and report the findings to the Legislature of Louisiana no later than December 31, 2012. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that such study may also include input from representatives from the following: (1) Louisiana Chapter of the United States Green Building Council. (2) AARP. (3) American Heart Association. (4) Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. ENROLLEDHCR NO. 152 Page 2 of 2 (5) Manufacturers of paint, flooring, or other products used in the maintenance, renovation, or construction of buildings, such as Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, and Armstrong. (6) Carpet and Rug Institute. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the director of the office of facility planning and control and the director of the office of state buildings.
