HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 25
BY REPRESENTATIVE HARRIS
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Lesley "Les" E. Golmon of
Alexandria.
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the
Louisiana Legislature have learned of the death of Lesley "Les" E. Golmon of Alexandria
on February 24, 2012, at the age of seventy-one; and
WHEREAS, Lesley Golmon was a celebrated sportsman, charismatic broadcast
journalist, and a pillar of the Alexandria community; and
WHEREAS, as a professional fisherman in the Louisiana BASS clubs, Mr. Golmon
won the 1980 Louisiana BASS Championship, ranked as "Top Fisherman" from 1975 to
1977 and "Top 6" from 1974 to 1979, 1981, 1982, and 1985, and received numerous
sponsorships; and 
WHEREAS, after retiring from fishing professionally in 1986, Mr. Golmon
continued to contribute to the fishing world by coordinating and overseeing numerous
fishing tournaments throughout the state and serving as a board member and president of the
Rapides Bass Club; and 
WHEREAS, in 2009, after forty-nine years, Mr. Golmon retired from his career of
teaching and entertaining the people of Louisiana with his KALB-TV 5 television show,
"Fishing with Les", and his newspaper column, "Les Talking, More Fishing", which he
wrote for the Alexandria Town Talk and the Red River Journal; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Golmon's broadcast accolades included serving as president and
board member of the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters and receiving the association's
Distinguished Service Award in 2003 for his forty-two years of productive service; and
WHEREAS, Lesley Golmon's service and accomplishments extended beyond fishing
and broadcasting, including his receipt of the 30-year Supporter Award from the Cenla 4-H ENROLLEDHCR NO. 25

Youth and service as a board member of the River City Credit Union and member of the
Lion's Club, Rotary Club, and the Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Golmon was preceded in death by his father, Leo Golmon, mother,
Enola Mary Vicknair Golmon, sister-in-law, Cynthia Rose Cook Golmon, brother-in-law,
Captain David L. Coker, Jr., and grandson, Steven Tucker Golmon; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Golmon is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Judy Coker
Golmon; his children, Michelle Golmon Jackson, Rhonda Marie Golmon, and Steven Brent
Golmon; four grandchildren, Loren Abigail Golmon, Lauren Ashley Jackson, Lesley Dayton
Jackson, and Caroline LeeAnne Golmon; his sister, Mary Jo Golmon Sweeden, his brother
Richard Lee Golmon; and a dear close friend, Marie Mayeaux; and 
     WHEREAS, although the death of Mr. Golman has left a tremendous void in his
community, his memory shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew and loved
him.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Lesley "Les" E. Golmon of
Alexandria, does hereby recognize and record for posterity his singular accomplishments and
contributions, and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that this
extraordinary gentleman will forever bring his loved ones, community, and state.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the family of Lesley E. Golmon.
