ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 32 BY REPRESENTATIVE LEGER A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To commend William Joyce, Brandon Oldenburg, and Moonbot Studios in Shreveport upon winning the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film for The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore at the Eighty-Fourth Annual Academy Awards. WHEREAS, on Sunday, February 26, 2012, the hearts and minds of the citizens of the state of Louisiana were in Hollywood, California, at the Academy Awards, where the brilliant creative team from Shreveport's Moonbot Studios won the Oscar in the category of Best Animated Short Film for The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore; and WHEREAS, directed by William Joyce and Brandon Oldenburg, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore is the first released animated project of Shreveport's Moonbot Studios, which was founded in 2010; and WHEREAS, this extraordinary film has captured the hearts and imaginations of all who have experienced the magical story of Mr. Morris Lessmore and the happiness he finds for himself and shares with others through his fantastic flying books; and WHEREAS, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore is an indelible part of an extraordinary era in the history of film in Louisiana, and it will forever occupy a special place in the memories of all whose lives it has touched; and WHEREAS, the singular talents and contributions of every member of the Moonbot team led to the creation of this animated masterpiece; and WHEREAS, in addition to being gifted filmmakers, the creative forces at Moonbot Studios work across various media platforms, and they have created a popular app in association with The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore as well as Numberlys, which presents a fanciful depiction of the origins of the alphabet, and Bullseye, an interactive music video collaboration with the Polyphonic Spree; and ENROLLEDHCR NO. 32 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, the citizens of this state eagerly anticipate Moonbot's future projects, which, like The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, will surely delight and amaze audiences in Louisiana and beyond; and WHEREAS, William Joyce, Brandon Oldenburg, and all at Moonbot Studios merit a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for their victory at the Oscars, for the joy and wonder they spread in the world with their art, and for the tremendous pride and honor they bring to the Shreveport community and the state of Louisiana. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend William Joyce, Brandon Oldenburg, and Moonbot Studios in Shreveport upon winning the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film for The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore at the Eighty-Fourth Annual Academy Awards, does hereby recognize and record for posterity this memorable and historic accomplishment, and does hereby extend to the entire Moonbot family best wishes for continued success and happiness in all of their future endeavors.
