HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 47
BY REPRESENTATIVE KATRINA JACKSON
SCHOOLS: Requests that each public school governing authority adopt a policy providing
for the availability of auto-injectable epinephrine at each school under its jurisdiction
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To urge and request each public school governing authority to adopt a policy providing for2
the availability of auto-injectable epinephrine at each elementary and secondary3
school under its jurisdiction.4
WHEREAS, the potential for life-threatening allergic reactions in young people is5
a significant health concern; and6
WHEREAS, anaphylaxis is a severe, potentially fatal, systemic allergic reaction that7
is rapid in onset; and8
WHEREAS, auto-injectable epinephrine is a medical device used for the immediate9
administration of epinephrine by or to a person at risk for anaphylaxis and can be a life-10
saving treatment; and11
WHEREAS, R.S. 17:436.1(J) authorizes public school governing authorities to12
permit the self-administration of auto-injectable epinephrine by a student at risk of13
anaphylaxis under certain circumstances; and14
WHEREAS, auto-injectable epinephrine should be made available for cases of15
emergency treatment of anaphylaxis at every public school.16
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby17
urge and request each public school governing authority to adopt a policy providing for the18
availability of auto-injectable epinephrine at each elementary and secondary school under19

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted1
to the state superintendent of education for dissemination to each public school governing2
authority.3
