ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 79 BY REPRESENTATIVE BADON A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To urge and request the Board of Supervisors of Community and Technical Colleges to submit a written report relative to the status of the reconstruction and reopening of the Sidney N. Collier Technical Division site of Delgado Community College to the House Committee on Education and the Senate Committee on Education by not later than May 15, 2013. WHEREAS, located on Louisa Street in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans, the Sidney N. Collier Technical Division site of Delgado Community College, formerly a campus of the Louisiana Technical College, suffered catastrophic damage in Hurricane Katrina; and WHEREAS, many residents of New Orleans were devastated by the destruction of this campus, which was a true neighborhood institution and was deeply beloved by its students, faculty, staff, and alumni and by the community as a whole; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Act No. 521 of the 2010 Regular Session of the Legislature, the Board of Supervisors of Community and Technical Colleges transferred all programs and courses of study offered through certain campuses of the Louisiana Technical College, including the Sidney N. Collier campus, to Delgado Community College, along with the funds, facilities, property, obligations, and functions relative thereto; and WHEREAS, the Sidney N. Collier campus is now designated as a Technical Division site of Delgado Community College and remains closed; and WHEREAS, the rebuilding and reopening the Sidney N. Collier site, viewed by many as a cornerstone of the Ninth Ward community, would reinforce this unique neighborhood's passionate and steadfast revitalization efforts; and WHEREAS, in addition to meeting the educational needs of the community, reopening the site would serve as another welcome and hopeful example of the ongoing ENROLLEDHCR NO. 79 Page 2 of 2 restoration and rebuilding that is possible throughout the Ninth Ward, the city of New Orleans, and all hurricane-affected areas in Louisiana; and WHEREAS, there is both a strong need and strong community support for the timely reconstruction and reopening of the Sidney N. Collier site. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the Board of Supervisors of Community and Technical Colleges to submit a written report relative to the status of the reconstruction and reopening of the Sidney N. Collier Technical Division site of Delgado Community College to the House Committee on Education and the Senate Committee on Education by not later than May 15, 2013. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the chairman of the Board of Supervisors of Community and Technical Colleges.
