ENROLLED Page 1 of 1 Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 8 BY REPRESENTATIVE PUGH A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To recognize July 2012 as Sarcoma Awareness Month in Louisiana. WHEREAS, sarcoma is a cancer of connective tissues, such as muscle, cartilage, fat, bone, and blood vessels, and can arise anywhere in the body; and WHEREAS, about eleven thousand Americans are diagnosed with sarcoma each year, five thousand die each year, and fifty thousand are struggling with the disease at any one time; and WHEREAS, about one percent of cancers diagnosed in adults and about fifteen percent of cancers diagnosed in children are sarcoma; and WHEREAS, more than fifty subtypes of sarcomas have been identified; and WHEREAS, the National Cancer Institute recognizes that sarcoma is frequently misdiagnosed and highly underreported; and WHEREAS, nonprofit sarcoma organizations want to raise awareness in hopes that more patients will get proper diagnosis and treatment, and these organizations have agreed upon July of 2012 as Sarcoma Awareness Month. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize July of 2012 as Sarcoma Awareness Month in Louisiana.
