HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 121

A RESOLUTION
To urge and request the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to require the
state superintendent of education to expand his statewide outreach initiative,
Louisiana Believes, to all parishes in the state.
WHEREAS, the state superintendent of education traveled the state holding events
in sixteen cities throughout Louisiana from April 19, 2012, through May 17, 2012, to meet
with educators and others relative to education reform; and
WHEREAS, this statewide outreach initiative, known as Louisiana Believes, was
developed by the state superintendent to involve educators in the formulation of a
comprehensive plan to ensure that Louisiana's education reforms are implemented to achieve
one central objective – "ensuring all students, at every grade level, are on track to attain a
college degree or succeed in a professional career"; and
WHEREAS, although meetings were held in several parishes over a period of several
weeks, there were no meetings held in many parishes of the state; and
WHEREAS, these meetings should continue throughout the summer months in order
to reach all areas of the state and to involve educators in those areas in this important
initiative in order to achieve the objective as stated by the state superintendent and to provide
for a truly comprehensive effort and plan as intended. 
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the State Board of Elementary and
Secondary Education to require the state superintendent of education to expand his statewide
outreach initiative, Louisiana Believes, to all parishes in the state. ENROLLEDHR NO. 121

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
president of the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education and the state
superintendent of education.
