HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 131
BY REPRESENTATIVE ANDERS
A RESOLUTION
To designate May 30, 2012, as 4-H Day at the legislature and to commend the state 4-H
Executive Board officers, 4-H members, and volunteers throughout the state for their
outstanding accomplishments.
WHEREAS, the LSU AgCenter 4-H program can trace its roots back to the "Corn
Club", which began in Avoyelles Parish in 1908; and
WHEREAS, the 4-H pledge, adopted in 1927, describes the four "Hs" as: Head,
Heart, Hand, and Health; and
WHEREAS, "Learning by Doing" is the 4-H club slogan which encourages members
to develop and improve their critical thinking and communication skills; and
WHEREAS, 4-H members participate in development and outreach programs in
three primary initiatives: citizenship, healthy living, and science, engineering, and
technology; and
WHEREAS, 4-H youth learn leadership and life skills through a variety of projects
on topics such as outdoor skills, aerospace, animal science, nutrition, forestry, and
community service; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana 4-H Youth Development program continues to expand
to meet the needs of youth, with participation exceeding two hundred fifty thousand
members across the state; and
WHEREAS, through its extraordinary record of research, education, youth
development, and community service, Louisiana 4-H is an invaluable asset to the LSU
AgCenter and the state of Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, today more than twelve hundred 4-H members and volunteers from all
sixty-four parishes are at the capitol for the eleventh annual 4-H Day meeting with
legislators and learning about the legislative process. ENROLLEDHR NO. 131

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate May 30, 2012, as 4-H Day at the legislature
and does hereby commend the 2011-2012 state 4-H Executive Board officers as follows:
Robert Fusilier, President; Haley Johnson, Vice President; Emily Boswell,
Secretary/Treasurer; Robert Lancon, Historian/Reporter; and Buck Owens, Parliamentarian.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the state president of the 4-H Executive Board.
