HLS 12RS-5189 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 163 BY REPRESENTATIVE CARTER SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes Monday, June 4, 2012, as Microsoft IT Academy Day A RESOLUTION1 To recognize Monday, June 4, 2012, as Microsoft IT Academy Day.2 WHEREAS, Microsoft, as part of its corporate mission, endeavors to improve the3 lives and educational opportunities of all children in the United States of America; and4 WHEREAS, Microsoft strives to constantly invent and put into use products and5 services which leverage technology for the benefit of learning for all children, including6 children with special needs; and7 WHEREAS, Microsoft has selected Louisiana to be a participant in the Microsoft IT8 Academy program; and9 WHEREAS, in partnership with the state Department of Education, the Microsoft10 IT Academy Program will train high school children to become Microsoft Technician11 Certified upon graduation from high school; and12 WHEREAS, more than one thousand eight hundred job openings for Microsoft13 Technicians currently exist in the state of Louisiana, with an average starting salary in excess14 of fifty thousand dollars annually; and15 WHEREAS, in furtherance of educational advancement in Louisiana, Microsoft has16 demonstrated for members of the legislature how its KINECT product can be used as an17 interactive educational tool for children and teachers, allowing children to learn valuable18 information in an engaging and interactive fashion; and19 WHEREAS, Microsoft's KINECT has also been an effective tool in assisting with20 the education of children with special needs in the United States, particularly children with21 HLS 12RS-5189 ORIGINAL HR NO. 163 Page 2 of 2 autism.1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the2 Legislature of Louisiana hereby recognizes Monday, June 4, 2012, as Microsoft IT Academy3 Day at the Legislature.4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted5 to Andrew Wise.6 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
