HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 163
BY REPRESENTATIVE CARTER
A RESOLUTION
To recognize Monday, June 4, 2012, as Microsoft IT Academy Day.
WHEREAS, Microsoft, as part of its corporate mission, endeavors to improve the
lives and educational opportunities of all children in the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, Microsoft strives to constantly invent and put into use products and
services which leverage technology for the benefit of learning for all children, including
children with special needs; and
WHEREAS, Microsoft has selected Louisiana to be a participant in the Microsoft IT
Academy program; and
WHEREAS, in partnership with the state Department of Education, the Microsoft
IT Academy Program will train high school children to become Microsoft Technician
Certified upon graduation from high school; and
WHEREAS, more than one thousand eight hundred job openings for Microsoft
Technicians currently exist in the state of Louisiana, with an average starting salary in excess
of fifty thousand dollars annually; and
WHEREAS, in furtherance of educational advancement in Louisiana, Microsoft has
demonstrated for members of the legislature how its KINECT product can be used as an
interactive educational tool for children and teachers, allowing children to learn valuable
information in an engaging and interactive fashion; and
WHEREAS, Microsoft's KINECT has also been an effective tool in assisting with
the education of children with special needs in the United States, particularly children with
autism.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana hereby recognizes Monday, June 4, 2012, as Microsoft IT Academy
Day at the Legislature. ENROLLEDHR NO. 163
