HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 171

A RESOLUTION
To commend Lieutenant Colonel Mark J. Sorapuru upon accepting command of the 7th
Space Warning Squadron at Beale Air Force Base on June 15, 2012, and Ramona
"Mona" T. Sorapuru upon becoming the squadron's first lady.
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Mark J. Sorapuru, the son of Murray J. Sorapuru
and Priscilla Duplessis, was born in Marrero, Louisiana, and is a graduate of West Jefferson
High School, the University of New Orleans, and the United States Naval War College in
Newport, Rhode Island; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Sorapuru is the husband of Ramona "Mona" Traigle
Sorapuru, who is the daughter of Rebecca Jane Burgin and Alvin Traigle, a native of New
Orleans, and a graduate of Riverdale High School and the University of New Orleans; she
has served as the Catholic religious education coordinator at Peterson Air Force Base in
Colorado Springs, Colorado; and
WHEREAS, together with their children, Abigail Ann and Mark Joseph "M.J."
Sorapuru, Lieutenant Colonel and Mrs. Sorapuru are beginning a new chapter in their
military lives with the 7th Space Warning Squadron at Beale Air Force Base in California;
and
WHEREAS, the men and women of the 7th Space Warning Squadron continuously
scan the horizon for missiles, satellites, and other manmade objects in space; and
WHEREAS, the squadron's primary mission is to detect, track, and provide impact
prediction of Sea-Launched and Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles launched towards North
America to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), and its secondary
mission is space surveillance; and
WHEREAS, on Friday, June 15, 2012, Colonel Jennifer C. Moore, Commander 21st
Operations Group, is hosting a Change of Command Ceremony during which Lieutenant ENROLLEDHR NO. 171

Colonel Scott M. Schroff is relinquishing command of the 7th Space Warning Squadron to
Lieutenant Colonel Sorapuru; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel and Mrs. Sorapuru and their family merit a special
measure of commendation for the pride and honor that they bring to the state of Louisiana
and the United States of America.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Lieutenant Colonel Mark J. Sorapuru upon
accepting command of the 7th Space Warning Squadron at Beale Air Force Base on June
15, 2012, and Ramona "Mona" T. Sorapuru upon becoming the squadron's first lady, does
hereby record for posterity their vital contributions to their nation and their tireless
dedication to excellence, and does hereby extend to them every good wish for continued
success and happiness in their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Lieutenant Colonel Mark J. Sorapuru and Ramona "Mona" T. Sorapuru.
