ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 30 BY REPRESENTATIVE LEGER A RESOLUTION To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of the Honorable Dominic Carra Grieshaber, Sr. WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the death of the Honorable Dominic Carra Grieshaber, Sr., on Monday, March 26, 2012, at the age of eighty- seven; and WHEREAS, a native of New Orleans and resident of Covington for the past twelve years, Judge Grieshaber attended St. Aloysius School and then St. Joseph Seminary College from 1936 until 1942 before serving his country with great honor and fortitude in the United States Army during World War II from 1943 until 1946; and WHEREAS, Judge Grieshaber received his juris doctorate from Loyola University in 1951 and entered private practice; and WHEREAS, in 1964, Judge Grieshaber was elected First City Court Judge of New Orleans, a position he held continuously for thirty-five years until he reached the maximum age at which he was eligible to serve as a judge in the state of Louisiana; and WHEREAS, upon his retirement as Chief Judge, Judge Grieshaber was the longest sitting judge in the state of Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Judge Grieshaber earned local acclaim as the "Marrying Judge" because he performed thousands of weddings, including those of several celebrities and those at such memorable locations as the 1984 World's Fair Gondola, Marie Laveau's Tomb, and the atrium at Bultman Funeral Home; and WHEREAS, Judge Grieshaber was a member of many professional and social clubs, including the New Orleans Spring Fiesta, Camellia Club of New Orleans, Young Men's Business Club, South Claiborne Avenue Business Men's Association, New Orleans Ballet Foundation, Exchange Club of the Vieux Carre, Knights of Columbus De La Salle Council, ENROLLEDHR NO. 30 Page 2 of 2 American Legion Post 307, Greater New Orleans Italian Cultural Society, and several carnival organizations, and he was crowned King of Caliphs of Cairo in 1965; and WHEREAS, Judge Grieshaber was preceded in death by his parents, George and Jennie Carra Grieshaber and his uncle, Rev. Monsignor Raymond Carra; and WHEREAS, Dominic Carra Grieshaber is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-three years, Inez Perrier Grieshaber; nine children, Dom Carra Grieshaber, Jr., Robyn Ann Grieshaber, David George Grieshaber and his wife, Kathleen, Christopher Lee Grieshaber and his wife, Paula, William James Grieshaber and his wife, Jayne, Ann Marie Grieshaber Serpas, Gretchen Ann Grieshaber Sagona and her husband, Beau, Michael John Grieshaber, and Lee Perrier Grieshaber and his wife, Mary; his daughter-in-law, Susan Brands Grieshaber; fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Agatha Grieshaber Schoen and Josephine Grieshaber Wagner; and WHEREAS, Judge Greishaber was the kind of citizen who represents what is good about Louisiana, a man of wisdom who used his talents and integrity to make the state better; and WHEREAS, with the death of Dominic Carra Grieshaber, Sr., Louisiana has lost one of her finest sons, a man whose accomplishments have left an indelible mark upon the lives of all those he touched and the citizens of this great state. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of the Honorable Dominic Carra Grieshaber, Sr., does hereby recognize and record for posterity the contributions and accomplishments of Judge Grieshaber, an exemplary public servant, and does hereby pay tribute to him for the generous and effective way in which he dedicated his intelligence to promoting justice.
