ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 40 BY REPRESENTATIVE GAROFALO A RESOLUTION To commend the Louisiana chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and to welcome its members to the Louisiana State Capitol. WHEREAS, every hour in the United States, someone is newly diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that interrupts the flow of information between the brain and the body; and WHEREAS, founded in 1972, the Louisiana chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is a not-for-profit agency serving nearly four thousand people with multiple sclerosis and their families throughout Louisiana; and WHEREAS, the chapter is headquartered in Metairie, is governed by a voluntary board of trustees, and raises funds annually to support its efforts on behalf of those living with MS through such campaigns as Walk MS, Bike MS, and the Renaissance Festival; and WHEREAS, the chapter also offers educational seminars, a quarterly newsletter, teleconferences, information and referral, a lending library, literature, an equipment loan closet, financial assistance, programs for those newly diagnosed with MS, and support groups; and WHEREAS, more than five hundred volunteers help support these worthy efforts by sharing their time and talents with the chapter as board members, regional council representatives, self-help group leaders, event volunteers, office assistants, and more; and WHEREAS, on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, in conjunction with its 2012 Public Policy Conference, the chapter is visiting the Louisiana State Capitol to raise awareness of MS throughout the state; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society merits a special measure of commendation for its steadfast efforts on behalf of those living with multiple sclerosis and for the tremendous pride and honor it brings to the state of Louisiana. ENROLLEDHR NO. 40 Page 2 of 2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Louisiana chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and does hereby welcome its members to the Louisiana State Capitol.
