HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 42
BY REPRESENTATIVE JOHNSON
A RESOLUTION
To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Nancy Mikell
Carruth of Bunkie.
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the
House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the death of Nancy
Mikell Carruth of Bunkie on Sunday, April 1, 2012, at the age of eighty-four; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Carruth was born in Alexandria on December 1, 1927, to Franklin
Trezevant Mikell and Nanie Haas Mikell; and 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Carruth was raised in Bunkie at Oak Hall Plantation, graduated as
valedictorian from Bunkie High School, and was later awarded a doctorate of humane letters
from Centenary College; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Carruth served on numerous international, national, state, and local
boards, committees, and conferences, and was particularly dedicated to and active in
endeavors related to Centenary College and the United Methodist Church; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Carruth was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Edward
T. Carruth, her parents, Franklin Trezevant Mikell and Nanie Haas Mikell, and her brother,
Franklin Haas Mikell; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Carruth is survived by her son, William M. Tebow and wife, Joan;
daughter, Donna T. Taylor and husband, Dr. Wayne Taylor; four grandchildren, Dr. Bryan
Taylor and wife, Dr. Georgia Taylor, Andrew Taylor and wife, Pamela, Katie T. Warren and
husband, Brian, and Celeste Tebow; and five great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, with the death of Nancy Mikell Carruth, Louisiana has lost one of her
finest citizens, a lady of many gifts and talents who has left an indelible mark on the lives
of those she touched; and ENROLLEDHR NO. 42

WHEREAS, although the death of Nancy Mikell Carruth has left a tremendous void
in her community, her memory shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all who loved
her and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the
death of Nancy Mikell Carruth of Bunkie, does hereby record for posterity her outstanding
accomplishments and singular contributions, and does hereby extend enduring appreciation
for the tremendous pride and honor that this wonderful woman will forever bring to her
family, friends, church, community, state, and nation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the family of Nancy Mikell Carruth.
