KATRINA JACKSON, NANCY LANDRY, MORENO, SMITH, ST. GERMAIN,
THIERRY, AND WHITNEY AND SENATORS BROOME, BUFFINGTON, AND
DORSEY-COLOMB
COMMENDATIONS: Commends Skylar Norton upon her induction into the National
Elementary Honor Society at Judson Fundamental Elementary Magnet School in
Shreveport
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Skylar Norton for her outstanding accomplishments on the occasion of her2
induction into the National Elementary Honor Society at Judson Fundamental3
Elementary Magnet School in Shreveport.4
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Skylar Norton for her many significant5
achievements and celebrate her induction into the National Elementary Honor Society at6
Judson Fundamental Elementary Magnet School in Shreveport on April 23, 2012; and7
WHEREAS, Skylar is the daughter of Lavette Norton and shares her birthday,8
January fifteenth, with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; and9
WHEREAS, Skylar is ten years old and a fourth grade student at Judson10
Fundamental Elementary Magnet School, a Louisiana school recognized as a National Blue11
Ribbon School and a School of Academic Distinction; and 12
WHEREAS, Skylar is an excellent student who received a citizenship award in the13
first grade, has maintained stellar grades, and has received numerous awards in recognition14
of her scholastic achievements; and15
WHEREAS, during the first week of a 2008 legislative session, Skylar met Governor16
Jindal and took a picture with him; she has also had the opportunity to meet and take a17
photograph with First Lady Michelle Obama; and in March of 2011, Skylar was able to18
welcome home service men and women returning from active duty in Afghanistan; and19 HLS 12RS-2948 ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, Skylar is a young citizen of many gifts and talents whose hobbies and1
interests include reading, math, dancing, and drawing; she is a member of Discovery, the2
Honor Society Choir, the youth cheerleading team, and is the youth chair organizer for the3
African American History Parade; and4
WHEREAS, the big sister of Payton and the granddaughter of Representative5
Barbara Norton, Skylar was recognized in the Shreveport Times as Representative Norton's6
campaign manager, one of numerous occasions when Skylar has been featured in7
newspapers, on television programs, and in magazines in the Shreveport area; and8
WHEREAS, Skylar's professional aspirations include being a legislator, an attorney,9
a doctor, a veterinarian, and the president of the United States; and10
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,11
and the overall vitality of American society depend in great measure upon young people like12
Skylar Norton, who brings tremendous pride and honor to her family, friends, school,13
community, state, and nation.14
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the15
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Skylar Norton for her outstanding16
accomplishments and upon induction into the National Elementary Honor Society at Judson17
Fundamental Elementary Magnet School in Shreveport and does hereby extend to her best18
wishes for continued success and happiness in her future endeavors.19
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted20
to Skylar Norton.21
