HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 52
BY REPRESENTATIVES NORTON, BARROW, CHAMPAGNE, HILL, HODGES,
KATRINA JACKSON, NANCY LANDRY, MORENO, SMITH, ST. GERMAIN,
THIERRY, AND WHITNEY AND SENATORS BROOME, BUFFINGTON, AND
DORSEY-COLOMB
A RESOLUTION
To commend Skylar Norton for her outstanding accomplishments on the occasion of her
induction into the National Elementary Honor Society at Judson Fundamental
Elementary Magnet School in Shreveport.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Skylar Norton for her many significant
achievements and celebrate her induction into the National Elementary Honor Society at
Judson Fundamental Elementary Magnet School in Shreveport on April 23, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Skylar is the daughter of Lavette Norton and shares her birthday,
January fifteenth, with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, Skylar is ten years old and a fourth grade student at Judson
Fundamental Elementary Magnet School, a Louisiana school recognized as a National Blue
Ribbon School and a School of Academic Distinction; and
WHEREAS, Skylar is an excellent student who received a citizenship award in the
first grade, has maintained stellar grades, and has received numerous awards in recognition
of her scholastic achievements; and
WHEREAS, during the first week of a 2008 legislative session, Skylar met Governor
Jindal and took a picture with him; she has also had the opportunity to meet and take a
photograph with First Lady Michelle Obama; and in March of 2011, Skylar was able to
welcome home service men and women returning from active duty in Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, Skylar is a young citizen of many gifts and talents whose hobbies and
interests include reading, math, dancing, and drawing; she is a member of Discovery, the
Honor Society Choir, the youth cheerleading team, and is the youth chair organizer for the
African American History Parade; and ENROLLEDHR NO. 52

WHEREAS, the big sister of Payton and the granddaughter of Representative
Barbara Norton, Skylar was recognized in the Shreveport Times as Representative Norton's
campaign manager, one of numerous occasions when Skylar has been featured in
newspapers, on television programs, and in magazines in the Shreveport area; and
WHEREAS, Skylar's professional aspirations include being a legislator, an attorney,
a doctor, a veterinarian, and the president of the United States; and
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
and the overall vitality of American society depend in great measure upon young people like
Skylar Norton, who brings tremendous pride and honor to her family, friends, school,
community, state, and nation.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Skylar Norton for her outstanding
accomplishments and upon induction into the National Elementary Honor Society at Judson
Fundamental Elementary Magnet School in Shreveport and does hereby extend to her best
wishes for continued success and happiness in her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Skylar Norton.
