HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 53
BY REPRESENTATIVE HONORE
A RESOLUTION
To commend the Scotlandville Magnet High School boys' basketball team upon winning the
2012 Class 5A state championship.
WHEREAS, the Scotlandville Magnet High School boys' basketball team completed
a sensational season, earning the title of 2012 Class 5A state champions after defeating
McKinley High School by a score of 82-48 to win the state championship game on Friday,
March 9, at the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston; and
WHEREAS, the historic victory was the culmination of another unforgettable season
for the Hornets; and
WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest level of excellence
throughout the 2011-2012 season and playoffs, and each of these Hornets deserves
recognition for his vital contribution to the winning effort; and
WHEREAS, the Hornets were led by Cleveland Thomas, who earned the title of
Most Outstanding Player for the championship game; and
WHEREAS, the Hornets' amazing accomplishments could not have been achieved
without the guidance and skills of Head Coach Carlos Sample, Assistant Coach Marcus
Bradford, and Assistant Coach Jeremy Noah, as well as all of the other individuals who have
contributed to the success of the school's basketball program; and
WHEREAS, the team's outstanding 2011-2012 season upholds the glorious tradition
of the Hornets, and all Scotlandville Magnet High School alumni and fans recognize the
immense pride and distinguished honor that the team brings to its school, community, and
state.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Scotlandville Magnet High School boys'
basketball team upon winning the 2012 Class 5A state championship and does hereby extend ENROLLEDHR NO. 53

best wishes to the players, coaches, and everyone involved with this fine basketball program
as they celebrate their exceptional season and prepare for continued success in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Coach Carlos Sample.
