HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 64
BY REPRESENTATIVE JOHNSON
A RESOLUTION
To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Jerry Lee Laborde of Fifth
Ward.
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the
Louisiana House of Representatives have learned of the death of Jerry Lee Laborde on
Thursday, April 19, 2012, at the age of seventy-five; and
WHEREAS, Jerry Lee Laborde served his country proudly in both the National
Guard and the United States Marine Corps and fought with valor and fortitude in the Korean
War; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Laborde served the Fifth Ward community as the owner and
operator of the Phillips 66 gas station, school bus driver for the Avoyelles Parish School
Board, and owner of Jerry Lee's Barber Shop; and 
WHEREAS, Mr. Laborde was a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic
Church and a member of both the Knights of Columbus Council 9818 and the American
Legion Post #402; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Laborde is preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and
Hennessey Laborde, sister, Peggy Blanchard, and brother, Fenwick Laborde; and
WHEREAS, left to cherish Mr. Laborde's memory are his wife of fifty-four years,
Marie Laborde; son, Louie Laborde and wife, Mary; daughters, Susan Gunn and husband,
Jerald, and Tammy Tassin and husband, Scott; six grandchildren, Alana Laborde, Brittany
Cannady, Jenna Laborde, Casey Laborde, Tristen Tassin, and Abby Tassin; sisters, Eola
LaJaunie and husband, Wayne, and Patsy Dubea; and brother, Roland Laborde and wife,

WHEREAS, Jerry Lee Laborde's fellow citizens mourn the loss of this beloved
individual and share the grief of his family and friends at his passing; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Laborde will forever bring great pride and honor to the Fifth Ward
community and to the state of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the
death of Jerry Lee Laborde of Fifth Ward, does hereby extend enduring appreciation for his
outstanding accomplishments and singular contributions, and does hereby recognize that his
legacy of kindness and compassion shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all who
knew and loved him.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the family of Jerry Lee Laborde.
