SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes April 25, 2012, as School-Based Health
Center Awareness Day and commends La. Assembly on School-Based Health Care,
Institute of Women and Ethnic Studies, La. Public Health Institute's School Health
Connection, and Kellogg Foundation
A RESOLUTION1
To recognize Wednesday, April 25, 2012, as School-Based Health Center Awareness Day2
at the Louisiana State Capitol and to commend the efforts of the Louisiana Assembly3
on School-Based Health Care, the Institute of Women and Ethnic Studies, the4
Louisiana Public Health Institute's School Health Connection, and the Kellogg5
Foundation.6
WHEREAS, school-based health centers have been operating in Louisiana since7
1991 and provide high quality, comprehensive, accessible, and affordable health care to8
children and adolescents at school sites; and9
WHEREAS, school-based health centers deliver preventative, diagnostic, and10
treatment services, including direct primary and mental health care for acute and chronic11
illnesses, health education, case management assistance, and immunizations; and12
WHEREAS, school-based health centers also provide vital counseling for issues13
related to childhood obesity, smoking, substance abuse, violence and safety issues, and14
behavioral problems; and15
WHEREAS, seventy-one school-based heath centers provide primary and16
preventative care to young people in twenty-two parishes throughout Louisiana; and17
WHEREAS, there were one hundred fifty-two thousand eight hundred ninety-eight18
patient visits in school-based health centers during Fiscal Year 2010-2011; and19 HLS 12RS-3230 ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, it is appropriate to set aside a special day to raise awareness of school-1
based health centers and to commend those dedicated to student health in the state of2
Louisiana.3
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the4
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Wednesday, April 25, 2012, as School-5
Based Health Center Awareness Day at the Louisiana State Capitol and does hereby6
commend the efforts of the Louisiana Assembly on School-Based Health Care, the Institute7
of Women and Ethnic Studies, the Louisiana Public Health Institute's School Health8
Connection, and the Kellogg Foundation.9
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted10
to Tracy Parker and Angelita Brown.11
