HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 66
BY REPRESENTATIVE SMITH
A RESOLUTION
To recognize Wednesday, April 25, 2012, as School-Based Health Center Awareness Day
at the Louisiana State Capitol and to commend the efforts of the Louisiana Assembly
on School-Based Health Care, the Institute of Women and Ethnic Studies, the
Louisiana Public Health Institute's School Health Connection, and the Kellogg
Foundation.
WHEREAS, school-based health centers have been operating in Louisiana since
1991 and provide high quality, comprehensive, accessible, and affordable health care to
children and adolescents at school sites; and
WHEREAS, school-based health centers deliver preventative, diagnostic, and
treatment services, including direct primary and mental health care for acute and chronic
illnesses, health education, case management assistance, and immunizations; and
WHEREAS, school-based health centers also provide vital counseling for issues
related to childhood obesity, smoking, substance abuse, violence and safety issues, and
behavioral problems; and
WHEREAS, seventy-one school-based heath centers provide primary and
preventative care to young people in twenty-two parishes throughout Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, there were one hundred fifty-two thousand eight hundred ninety-eight
patient visits in school-based health centers during Fiscal Year 2010-2011; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to set aside a special day to raise awareness of school-
based health centers and to commend those dedicated to student health in the state of
Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Wednesday, April 25, 2012, as School-
Based Health Center Awareness Day at the Louisiana State Capitol and does hereby ENROLLEDHR NO. 66

commend the efforts of the Louisiana Assembly on School-Based Health Care, the Institute
of Women and Ethnic Studies, the Louisiana Public Health Institute's School Health
Connection, and the Kellogg Foundation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Tracy Parker and Angelita Brown.
