HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 69
BY REPRESENTATIVE LORUSSO
A RESOLUTION
To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Monsignor Clinton J. Doskey
of New Orleans.
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the
Louisiana House of Representatives have learned of the death of Monsignor Clinton J.
Doskey on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at the age of eighty-one; and
WHEREAS, Monsignor Doskey was born in New Orleans on January 28, 1931, was
baptized on February 8, 1931, and attended Our Lady of Lourdes and E.B. Kruttschnitt
elementary schools; and
WHEREAS, Monsignor Doskey's secondary and college years were spent at St.
Joseph Seminary and Notre Dame Seminary, and he received a bachelor's degree in canon
law (J.C.B.) from Catholic University and a licentiate in canon law (J.C.L.) from Lateran
University in Rome; and
 WHEREAS, on June 5, 1954, Monsignor Doskey was ordained a priest for the
Archdiocese of New Orleans; and 
WHEREAS, for more than twenty years, Monsignor Doskey served with great
dedication and effectiveness as pastor at St. Pius X, where he became pastor emeritus in
2009; and
WHEREAS, St. Pius X thrived under the pastorship of Monsignor Doskey, and
during his tenure, the ministries of the parish were expanded, the church was refurbished,
and the school added a prekindergarten class and was honored in 2007 as a No Child Left
Behind National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his longtime service at St. Pius X, Monsignor Doskey
served as an assistant pastor at St. Rose of Lima, Our Lady of Lourdes, Annunciation, St.
Frances Cabrini, Sts. Peter and Paul, and Mater Dolorosa; his first pastorate was at St. ENROLLEDHR NO. 69

Francis de Sales, and he also served as pastor at St. Ann, St. Philip, St. Leo the Great, and
Our Lady of Perpetual Help; he was named a Prelate of Honor in April of 1975; and
WHEREAS, Monsignor Doskey faithfully served the Metropolitan Tribunal in
numerous capacities, including as a Consultor, Vice Chancellor, Vicar for Religious, and a
member of the Priests' Council; and
WHEREAS, from the earliest days of the Krewe of Endymion, Monsignor Doskey
served as the krewe's chaplain, celebrating Mass for krewe members before their annual
parade as a beloved member of the Endymion family; and
WHEREAS, Monsignor Doskey also served as the chaplain of the Saints Touchdown
Club for decades; and
WHEREAS, Monsignor Doskey is survived by his sister, Mary Elizabeth Doskey
(Sister Betty), his brothers, Richard and his wife, Beverly, Jimmy, and David and his wife,
Jackie, his brother-in-law, Matt McCarthy, his sister-in-law, Cynthia Doskey, and many
nieces, nephews, and cousins; he was preceded in death by his sister, Elsie Doskey
McCarthy, his sister-in-law, Theresa Doiron Doskey, and his parents, C. Clinton Doskey and
Elsie Zollinger Doskey; and
WHEREAS, with the death of Monsignor Doskey, Louisiana has lost one of her
finest sons, a quintessential New Orleanian who loved his city and all of her traditions, a
man of wisdom who used his abiding faith, his calling, his talents, his generosity, and his
passion for his community to change the Crescent City for the better; and
WHEREAS, although the death of Monsignor Doskey has left a tremendous void in
his community, his legacy of devotion to God and his tireless service to his community shall
live forever in the hearts and memories of the innumerable Louisianians whose lives he
touched.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the
death of Monsignor Clinton J. Doskey of New Orleans, does hereby recognize his
uncompromising endeavor to improve the welfare of his fellow citizens, and does hereby
record his singular contributions and achievements, which will forever be remembered and
continue to be a source of pride and honor for his family, his friends, the Archdiocese of
New Orleans, and the state of Louisiana. ENROLLEDHR NO. 69

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the family of Monsignor Clinton J. Doskey.
