HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 97
BY REPRESENTATIVE JOHNSON
A RESOLUTION
To commend Lynn Cooper upon his retirement as warden of the Avoyelles Correctional
Center.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Lynn Cooper for his exceptional
achievements and contributions upon his retirement as warden of the Avoyelles Correctional
Center; and
WHEREAS, as warden of Avoyelles Correctional Center, Warden Cooper is
responsible for managing, planning, directing, supervising, and coordinating all phases of
operation for the care, training, rehabilitation, and welfare of more than one thousand five
hundred offenders and a staff of more than three hundred; and
WHEREAS, Warden Cooper has twenty-five years of experience in the field of
corrections and started his career at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in February of 1986 as
a cadet; and
WHEREAS, between 1986 and 1992, Warden Cooper held the rank of sergeant; he
was promoted to lieutenant and moved up through the ranks to the position of assistant
warden in 1999; and
WHEREAS, in 2001, Warden Cooper became warden of Louis Jetson Correctional
Center for Youth in Baton Rouge, and he has served with great distinction as warden at
Avoyelles Correctional Center since 2003; and
WHEREAS, Warden Cooper's civic and professional affiliations include serving as
a member of the Marksville Chamber of Commerce, the executive board of North American
Association of Wardens and Superintendents, the board of advisers for the Louisiana
Technical College/Ward H. Nash Avoyelles Campus, the board and the finance committee
of the Department of Corrections Credit Union, and Christian Family Worship Center, and
as president of the Louisiana Association of Wardens; and ENROLLEDHR NO. 97

WHEREAS, Warden Cooper is widely respected and admired by his fellow citizens
for his outstanding professional accomplishments and for his singular contributions to the
Avoyelles Parish community; and
WHEREAS, Warden Lynn Cooper merits a special measure of commendation for
the tremendous pride and honor he brings to Avoyelles Parish and to the state of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Lynn Cooper upon his retirement as warden
of the Avoyelles Correctional Center, does hereby recognize and record for posterity his long
and highly effective career as a dedicated public servant, and does hereby extend to him best
wishes for continued success and happiness in his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Warden Lynn Cooper.
