AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 13:783(D)(1)(a) and (7), relative to clerks of court; to provide2
relative to the clerk of court of Cameron Parish, East Feliciana Parish, Franklin3
Parish, St. Charles Parish, Vermilion Parish, West Baton Rouge Parish, and West4
Feliciana Parish; to provide for an automobile expense allowance for the clerk of5
court of Cameron Parish, East Feliciana Parish, Franklin Parish, St. Charles Parish,6
Vermilion Parish, West Baton Rouge Parish, and West Feliciana Parish; and to7
provide for related matters.8
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:9
Section 1.  R.S. 13:783(D)(1)(a) and (7) are hereby amended and reenacted to read10
as follows: 11
ยง783. Expenses of clerk's office12

D.(1)(a)(i) Each of the clerks of the district courts is hereby authorized to14
purchase, out of any surplus in his salary fund, an automobile for the use of his15
office, after having first obtained the consent of the governing authority of the parish.16
(ii)  However, the consent of the governing authority shall not be necessary17
as to any clerk of court who prior to July 29, 1970, has purchased an automobile18
under authority of any previously enacted law. 19

(7) In Acadia Parish, Cameron Parish, East Feliciana Parish, Franklin21
Parish, Iberia Parish, Red River Parish, St. Charles Parish, St. Tammany Parish,22
Tangipahoa Parish, Vermilion Parish, and Washington Parish, West Baton Rouge23
Parish, and West Feliciana Parish the clerks of the district courts of those parishes24
may receive an automobile expense allowance equal to fifteen percent of their annual25
salary provided the clerk of court maintains three hundred thousand dollars of26
automobile insurance per accident for bodily injury and one hundred thousand27

dollars of automobile insurance per accident for property damage. The expense1
allowance shall come from surplus funds in each of the offices of the clerks of court2
and at no additional expense to the state or local governing authority.3
