AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE. Provides for selection or rejection of uninsured motorist
coverage pursuant to the Louisiana Uniform Electronic Transactions Act. (8/1/12)
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 22:1295(1)(a)(v), relative to uninsured motorist coverage; to provide for2
selection or rejection of uninsured motorist coverage pursuant to the Louisiana3
Electronic Transactions Act; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 22:1295(1)(a)(v) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 6
ยง1295.  Uninsured Motorist Coverage7
The following provisions shall govern the issuance of uninsured motorist8
coverage in this state:9
(1)(a)(i)10

(v) At the option of the insurer and the named insured, the prescribed12
form for the rejection, selection of lower limits, or selection of economic-only13
coverage may be provided by the insurer and signed by the named insured or14
his legal representative in accordance with the Louisiana Uniform Transactions15
Act, R.S. 9:2601 et seq.16

Present law provides that the rejection, selection of lower limits, or selection of economic-
only uninsured motorist coverage shall be made only on a form prescribed by the
commissioner of insurance. Requires the prescribed form to be provided by the insurer and
signed by the named insured or his legal representative.
Proposed law retains present law and allows for the prescribed form to be provided by the
insurer and signed by the named insured or his legal representative in accordance with the
Louisiana Uniform Electronic Transactions Act.
Effective August 1, 2012.
