SCHOOLS. Prohibits charter school agreements to operate a portion of an existing high

AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 17:3991(I), relative to charter schools; to provide relative to charter proposals2
and charter agreements; to prohibit charter agreements to operate a portion of an3
existing high school; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 17:3991(I) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 6
ยง3991. Charter schools; requirements; limitations; renewal; amendment; revocation7

I. Notwithstanding any provision of this Chapter or any other law to the9
contrary, the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education shall not10
consider or approve any charter proposal that seeks a charter agreement to11
operate only a portion of the grade levels established in an existing high school12
under the jurisdiction of the Recovery School District.13
Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not14
signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature15
by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If16
vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become17 SB NO. 445

effective on the day following such approval.1

Proposed law prohibits BESE from considering or approving any charter proposal that seeks
a charter agreement to operate only a portion of the grade levels established in an existing
high school under the jurisdiction of the Recovery School District.
