Requires the secretary of state to include the email addresses of candidates and elected officials on the department database. (8/1/12) AN ACT1 To amend and reenact R.S. 18:463(A)(1)(a), and to enact R.S.18:18(E), relative to the duties2 and powers of the secretary of state; to provide the secretary of state collect and3 maintain email addresses for current elected officials; to provide for the secretary of4 state to include email addresses of candidates and elected officials in the department5 database; and to provide for related matters.6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7 Section 1. R.S. 18:463(A)(1)(a) is hereby amended and reenacted and R.S. 18:18(E)8 is enacted to read as follows: 9 §18. Secretary of state; powers and duties10 * * *11 E. On or before September 1, 2012, the secretary of state shall collect and12 maintain on the department's website, a listing of email addresses for all13 current and future serving statewide and local elected officials.14 * * *15 §463. DIGEST Present law provides for the duties and powers of the secretary of state. Proposed law retains present law. Proposed law provides that on or before September 1, 2012, the secretary of state will collect and maintain email addresses for all elected officials in the database of the Department of State. Present law provides that all candidates submit a notice of candidacy in writing that states the candidate's name, the office he seeks, the address of his domicile, the parish, ward, and precinct where he is registered to vote, and the political party, if any, with which he is registered as being affiliated. Proposed law retains present law and provides that all candidates also provide an email address on their notice of candidacy. Effective August 1, 2012.
