MOTOR VEHICLES. Reduces from $8 to $6 the additional motor vehicle inspection charge
or fee charged for each inspection that includes performance of inspection and maintenance
(I/M) program in non-attainment areas. (8/1/12)
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 32:1306(C)(3)(a), relative to the operation of official motor2
vehicle inspection stations; to reduce the additional fee charged for motor vehicle3
inspection in non-attainment parishes and municipalities; to eliminate the two dollar4
fee transferred to the Department of Environmental Quality; and to provide for5
related matters.6
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7
Section 1. R.S. 32:1306(C)(3)(a) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as8
follows: 9

(3)(a)  For parishes and municipalities that have a vehicle inspection and13
maintenance program required by the federal Clean Air Act or regulations14
promulgated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, an additional15
eight six dollars shall be charged for each inspection that includes the performance16
of the inspection and maintenance (I/M) program pursuant to the provisions of R.S.17 SB NO. 558

30:2054(B)(8) for 1980 or newer model year motor vehicles.  The motor vehicle1
inspection station shall retain six dollars of the such additional charge for2
implementation and performance of the I/M program.  Two dollars of the additional3
charge shall be transferred to the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality4
to implement and operate the inspection and maintenance program.5

Present law requires an annual charge or fee of $10 for each motor vehicle inspection
certificate.
Present law requires an additional charge of $8 for each motor vehicle inspection certificate
for 1980 or newer model year motor vehicles in parishes and municipalities which have a
vehicle inspection and maintenance program required by the federal Clean Air Act or
regulation promulgated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
Present law provides for the motor vehicle inspection station to retain $6 of such additional
charge and for $2 of such additional charge to be transferred to DEQ to implement and
operate the inspection and maintenance program.
Proposed law retains present law which requires a $10 motor vehicle inspection charge per
motor vehicle inspection certificate.
Proposed law reduces from $8 to $6 such additional motor vehicle inspection certificate
charge for the I/M program.
Proposed law retains present law which provides for the motor vehicle inspection station to
retain $6 of such additional charge.
Proposed law eliminates $2 additional charge transferred to DEQ to implement and operate
the inspection and maintenance program.
Effective August 1, 2012.
