(8/1/12) AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 33:2934, relative to the expenditure of public funds; to prohibit the2 expenditure of public funds to disseminate the criminal history of a murder victim3 in the parish of Orleans; to provide exceptions; to provide for civil fines; and to4 provide for related matters.5 Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7 Section 1. R.S. 33:2934 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 8 ยง2934. Prohibition of the expenditure of public funds; Orleans Parish9 A. No public funds shall be expended to disseminate any criminal10 history of a murder victim in the parish of Orleans, except when both of the11 following conditions are met:12 (1) When such criminal history is directly related to the investigation of13 such murder.14 (2) When the person releasing such criminal history publicly states why15 such information is necessary.16 B. Wells. DIGEST Proposed law prohibits the expenditure of public funds to disseminate any criminal history of a murder victim in Orleans Parish. Proposed law provides an exception when both of the following conditions are met: (1) When such criminal history is directly related to the investigation of such murder. (2) When the person releasing such criminal history publicly states why such information is necessary. Proposed law provides that any person who violates the provisions of proposed law shall be subject to a civil fine of not more than $500. Effective August 1, 2012. (Adds R.S. 33:2934)
