SENATE BILL NO. 734
BY SENATOR PETERSON 
MUNICIPALITIES. To remove the water rate exemptions given to certain entities located
in a municipality with a population in excess of 340,000 citizens. (8/1/12)
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 33:4096.1, relative to water rates in certain municipalities; to provide that2
certain rates shall be comparable to other customers; and to provide for related3
matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 33:4096.1 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 6
Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, in a municipality7
with a population in excess of three hundred forty thousand citizens based on8
the latest federal decennial census, the following entities shall be charged the9
same rate as other consumers of water from the public water supply:10
(1)  Any museum.11
(2)  Any public park.12

Proposed law provides that in a municipality with a population greater than 340,000 citizens
based on the latest federal decennial census, the following entities shall be charged the same
rate as other consumers of water from the public water supply:
1. Any museum.
2. Any public park.
3. Any zoo.
Effective August 1, 2012.
