LOCAL ELECTIONS. Changes the dates for municipal and parochial elections in Orleans
Parish. (8/1/12) 
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 18:402(D)(2), relative to the election code; relative to municipal2
and parochial elections in Orleans Parish; provides for dates for elections to be held3
in 2014; and to provide for related matters.4
Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1. R.S. 18:402(D)(2), is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:7
ยง402. Dates of primary and general elections8

D. Parochial and municipal elections in a parish containing a municipality10
with a population of three hundred thousand or more. Elections for parochial and11
municipal officers in a parish containing a municipality with a population of three12
hundred thousand or more shall be held every four years, beginning in 2006, as13
follows:14

(2) General elections for parochial and municipal officers shall be held on the16
fourth Saturday after the first Saturday in February of an election year except for17 SB NO. 76

2014 in which the general elections for parochial and municipal officers shall be1
held on the sixth Saturday after the first Saturday in February.2

DIGEST
Present law provides that general elections for parochial and municipal officers in a parish
containing a municipality with a population of three hundred thousand or more will be held
on the fourth Saturday after the first Saturday in February of an election year.
Proposed law retains present law and provides that in 2014 general elections for parochial
and municipal officers will be held on the sixth Saturday after the first Saturday in February.
Effective August 1, 2012.
