To declare the month of May as "National Military Appreciation Month" in Louisiana.
WHEREAS, as a nation, the United States observes and participates in various
national cultural and social awareness events through mass media attention and educational
curriculum; and
WHEREAS, the United States, through its citizens, has not always accorded
appropriate recognition of the most important presence in the world today, the Armed Forces
of the United States, an entity which impacts each and every American in many important
ways; and
WHEREAS, National Military Appreciation Month has been designated by Congress
to provide a period encompassing both the history and the recognition of our armed services
with an in-depth look at the diversity of its individuals and achievements; and

generation on the historical impact of our military through the participation of the
community with those who serve, thus encouraging patriotism and a love and respect for
America; and
WHEREAS, this month affords the nation a time and place on which to focus and
draw attention to our many expressions of appreciation and recognition of our armed
services through numerous activities and through becoming better acquainted with our rich
American history; and SCR NO. 101	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, this very important month honors, remembers, recognizes, and
emphasizes appreciation of all military personnel; those men and women who have served
throughout our history and all who now serve in uniform and their families, who sacrifice
much to provide Americans with the freedoms which are expressed every day, as well as
those in the armed services who have given their lives in defense of those freedoms; and
WHEREAS, as the state which is home to the National World War II Museum in
New Orleans, it is especially fitting that Louisiana join in this national time of honor and
tribute to all those heroes who have served in the armed services for their particular
sacrifices in the name of liberty; and
WHEREAS, by declaring the month of May "National Military Appreciation
Month", Americans recognize those on active duty in all branches of the services, Army,
Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard, as well as those in the National Guard and
Reserves, and all veterans and all of their families who number over ninety million
Americans during the nearly two hundred forty years of this glorious republic, the United
States of America.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
declare the month of May as "National Military Appreciation Month" in Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
