Commends Breaux Bridge High School for placing second in the Louisiana High School Technology Challenge. A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To commend Breaux Bridge High School for placing second in the Louisiana High School2 Technology Challenge.3 WHEREAS, the University of Louisiana at Monroe was the proud host of the sixth4 Louisiana High School Technology Challenge; and5 WHEREAS, registered schools from throughout the state competed in this6 competition where the main purpose is to demonstrate how high school students can use7 technology in a creative manner, within a team, for productive lifelong learning; and8 WHEREAS, the annual online technology competition, a virtual field trip,9 encourages high school students to prepare for the state's future; and10 WHEREAS, the mission of the challenge is to promote enthusiastic support for more11 active involvement of students in active learning opportunities; and12 WHEREAS, the competition enhances learning by instilling a passion for learning13 through teamwork, actively recognizing and sharing excellent student work, celebrating14 outstanding student work and student achievement, promoting community, school, and15 business partnerships which support learning through technology, promoting meaningful16 achievement and attracting students to the professional and technical careers in technology;17 and18 SCR NO. 102 SLS 12RS-3852 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, all high schools are eligible to participate in this educational event by1 registering a fifteen-member team; and2 WHEREAS, the Louisiana High School Technology Challenge recognizes and3 acknowledges students interested in demonstrating their creative use of technology and4 teamwork skills by precisely answering twenty questions, verified from authoritative web5 sites, designing a one-page flyer promoting a worthy cause and supported by a fund raiser,6 preparing a visual tutorial on how data was found on the Internet and visually comparing a7 typical good and bad meal with graphs geared toward a high school audience; and8 WHEREAS, since 2006, thirty-eight hundred high school students from one hundred9 high schools have participated in this annual online event held during regular school hours10 in high school computer labs across Louisiana; and11 WHEREAS, Breaux Bridge High School placed second in the 2012 challenge with12 the support of team coaches Christine Mills, Carol Miller, and Principal Rene Angelle; and13 WHEREAS, the members of the Breaux Bridge High School winning team include14 Joey Benoit, Aimie Lasseigne, Christopher Boudreaux, Justin Boudreaux, Zachary Dupuis,15 Brooke Gillespie, Randall Hebert, Paige Hollier, Katherine Read, Blake LeBlanc, Gabriel16 Mouton, Kaleb Theriot, Nicole Strickland, Olivia Meche, and Kyler Wiltz; and17 WHEREAS, the team collaborated for hours as they completed challenging and18 creative tasks utilizing Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Photo Image Editing, and Internet19 research; and20 WHEREAS, as Louisiana prepares for a bright technological future, school teams21 like the Breaux Bridge High School team are able to apply their skills to help produce major22 contributions in a modern and progressive society through teamwork; and23 WHEREAS, winning schools are recognized with team trophies as well as becoming24 a part of exemplars, video tutorials, technology tips, and online projects; and25 WHEREAS, the Breaux Bridge High School team merits a special measure of26 commendation for its commitment to high achievement and academic excellence, and for27 placing second out of thirty-six other statewide teams.28 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby29 commend Breaux Bridge High School for placing second in the Louisiana High School30 SCR NO. 102 SLS 12RS-3852 ORIGINAL Page 3 of 3 Technology Challenge.1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to each2 of the team members and their coaches, Christine Mills, Carol Miller, and Principal Rene3 Angelle.4 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Michelle Broussard-Johnson.
