Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 102 BY SENATOR MILLS AND REPRESENTATIVE HUVAL A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To commend Breaux Bridge High School for placing second in the Louisiana High School Technology Challenge. WHEREAS, the University of Louisiana at Monroe was the proud host of the sixth Louisiana High School Technology Challenge; and WHEREAS, registered schools from throughout the state competed in this competition where the main purpose is to demonstrate how high school students can use technology in a creative manner, within a team, for productive lifelong learning; and WHEREAS, the annual online technology competition, a virtual field trip, encourages high school students to prepare for the state's future; and WHEREAS, the mission of the challenge is to promote enthusiastic support for more active involvement of students in active learning opportunities; and WHEREAS, the competition enhances learning by instilling a passion for learning through teamwork, actively recognizing and sharing excellent student work, celebrating outstanding student work and student achievement, promoting community, school, and business partnerships which support learning through technology, promoting meaningful achievement and attracting students to the professional and technical careers in technology; and WHEREAS, all high schools are eligible to participate in this educational event by registering a fifteen-member team; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana High School Technology Challenge recognizes and acknowledges students interested in demonstrating their creative use of technology and teamwork skills by precisely answering twenty questions, verified from authoritative web sites, designing a one-page flyer promoting a worthy cause and supported by a fund raiser, preparing a visual tutorial on how data was found on the Internet and visually comparing a typical good and bad meal with graphs geared toward a high school audience; and SCR NO. 102 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, since 2006, thirty-eight hundred high school students from one hundred high schools have participated in this annual online event held during regular school hours in high school computer labs across Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Breaux Bridge High School placed second in the 2012 challenge with the support of team coaches Christine Mills, Carol Miller, and Principal Rene Angelle; and WHEREAS, the members of the Breaux Bridge High School winning team include Joey Benoit, Aimie Lasseigne, Christopher Boudreaux, Justin Boudreaux, Zachary Dupuis, Brooke Gillespie, Randall Hebert, Paige Hollier, Katherine Read, Blake LeBlanc, Gabriel Mouton, Kaleb Theriot, Nicole Strickland, Olivia Meche, and Kyler Wiltz; and WHEREAS, the team collaborated for hours as they completed challenging and creative tasks utilizing Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Photo Image Editing, and Internet research; and WHEREAS, as Louisiana prepares for a bright technological future, school teams like the Breaux Bridge High School team are able to apply their skills to help produce major contributions in a modern and progressive society through teamwork; and WHEREAS, winning schools are recognized with team trophies as well as becoming a part of exemplars, video tutorials, technology tips, and online projects; and WHEREAS, the Breaux Bridge High School team merits a special measure of commendation for its commitment to high achievement and academic excellence, and for placing second out of thirty-six other statewide teams. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Breaux Bridge High School for placing second in the Louisiana High School Technology Challenge. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to each of the team members and their coaches, Christine Mills, Carol Miller, and Principal Rene Angelle.
