SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 151
BY SENATORS MORRELL AND ALARIO AND REPRESENTATIVE LEGER
LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR. Requests the lieutenant governor to disperse, from monies
available to him, $500,000 to the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To urge and request the lieutenant governor to disperse, from monies available to him, five2
hundred thousand dollars to the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities.3
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities suffered further cuts in4
its state appropriation in the 2012 Regular Session; and 5
WHEREAS, as a consequence of these severe reductions in state funding, the6
Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities has announced the suspension of the 2011-20127
grant cycle; and8
WHEREAS, over the last forty years, the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities9
has invested $66 million in projects and grants including approximately $25.3 million in10
grants to support more than 2,350 locally-initiated projects; and11
WHEREAS, for over thirty years, the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities has12
been the principal source of grant support for the production of documentary films and over13
two hundred other film and radio projects in the state; and14
WHEREAS, Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities has also eliminated Teacher15
Institutes for Advanced Study grants which were made to every university in the state and16
which saw over four thousand teachers graduate from the program; and17
WHEREAS, other programs such as PRIME TIME FAMILY READING TIME and18 SCR NO. 151

Readings in Literature and Culture will also suffer drastic cuts which will greatly reduce the1
future learning opportunities for economically and educationally vulnerable families.2
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby3
urge and request the lieutenant governor to disperse five hundred thousand dollars to the4
Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities from funds which are available to him and which5
may be used for such purpose.6
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the7
lieutenant governor.8
