Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 30 BY SENATOR CROWE AND REPRESENTATI VES CROMER AND PEARSON A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To designate April 3, 2012, as "Slidell Ladies For Liberty Day" at the Louisiana State Capitol. WHEREAS, the Slidell Ladies for Liberty (SLFL) is a group of women in Slidell, Louisiana dedicated to adopting local soldiers deployed to the Middle East; and WHEREAS, the SLFL meet monthly to sort, pack, and ship "We Care" packages filled with gifts, letters and various items from donation wish lists created over the years that include many suggestions from the soldiers themselves; and WHEREAS, the SLFL provide "Homecomings" when their adopted soldiers return home whether for R&R or at the end of their tour, inviting the community to join them in the special opportunity to fellowship with their adopted soldiers and their families and to celebrate their safe return home; and WHEREAS, the SLFL is sustained by caring individuals, businesses, civic and community partners who eagerly give their time, money, and resources for our service men and women; and WHEREAS, in addition to sending out "We Care" packages, and coordinating "Homecomings" the SLFL has made a difference in the lives of our troops and their families by sending letters, cards, and thank you notes to their adopted soldiers; and WHEREAS, this appreciation is noted in the words of one first lieutenant who wrote: "The gifts and packages received have gone far beyond just improving morale. Your warm words and thoughts have also had a significant impact on our hearts and minds"; and WHEREAS, the SLFL motto is "Home of the Free BECAUSE of the Brave!"; and WHEREAS, the SLFL wants every son and daughter of our nation to know unequivocally that their service and sacrifices will not go unnoticed; and WHEREAS, the SLFL will stand by their soldiers in this most difficult time, in any and all ways that they can, and that no effort will be spared on their behalf; and SCR NO. 30 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, the Slidell Ladies for Liberty dedicate their work in memory of one of their own soldiers, Army Sgt. Patrick O. Williamson, assigned to the 1 st Battalion 17 th Infantry Regiment, 5 th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2 nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington who died on October 27, 2009 in Arghandab Valley, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an IED, along with Sgt. Fernando Delarosa, Sgt. First Class Luis M. Gonzales, Sgt. Dale R. Griffin, Sgt. Issac B. Jackson, Spc. Jared D. Stanker and Pfc. Christopher I. Walz, who were all killed in this attack; and WHEREAS, the Slidell Ladies for Liberty have purposed that their sacrifice "May Never Be Forgotten". THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate April 3, 2012, as "Slidell Ladies for Liberty Day".
