SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 6
BY SENATOR CLAITOR AND REPRESENTATIVE FOIL 
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend Mr. and Mrs. Jim de Brueys and family of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, upon their
dedication to the legacy and memory of their late son, James Clifton de Brueys.
WHEREAS, James Clifton de Brueys was born to parents, Jim and Mary, on
December 23, 1987, one of five children; and
WHEREAS, in that short span of time that James de Brueys was on this earth, he
distinguished himself as an exceptional human being, as an honor student at Brother Martin
High School and Louisiana State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts
degree in anthropology; while at LSU he was on the Chancellor's Honor Roll and Dean's
List, participated in the LSU Academic Program Abroad, received the LSU Centennial
Award, named to the National Honor Society for Collegiate Scholars and Phi Eta Sigma, and
spoke fluent Spanish; and
WHEREAS, along with his scholarly pursuits, James was a Boy Scout, a Big Buddy,
a tutor, captain of the rugby team, and a musician; and
WHEREAS, James de Brueys did all things well and after graduation in December
2009, he joined WorldTeach, a program that provides opportunities for volunteers to teach
in developing countries and to live and work in remote areas; it was his decision to make a
meaningful contribution to enrich the lives of others, to "give a little back"; and
WHEREAS, James chose to teach English to children and adults on the Arno Atoll
in the Micronesian Marshall Islands in the South Pacific, a remote jungle paradise halfway
around the world from home; and
WHEREAS, on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 2010, James de Brueys was lost
at sea when the boat in which he was traveling capsized in rough seas; there were no
survivors; and
WHEREAS, the family of Jim and Mary de Brueys lessened their grief from the loss
of their precious James with a commitment to pay tribute to the humanitarian work that he

WHEREAS, with contributions from family, friends, and local organizations, the
deBrueys family fulfilled an idea that James had to build a basketball court near the little
schoolhouse where he taught English classes; and
WHEREAS, in December 2011, family members attended a ceremony in that small
village on Arno Atoll to dedicate the court to James' memory; and
WHEREAS, James has been remembered in several different ways by friends in the
community; a teacher's scholarship was established at St. Aloysius Catholic School and six
citrus trees were planted on the campus in remembrance; and
WHEREAS, after the memorial service for James, many of his friends gathered at
a local watering hole, where James was a bartender during his undergraduate years, to
celebrate his life and raise a glass to toast his memory; and
WHEREAS, James de Brueys did all things well; he crammed so much "living" into
twenty-three short years; and
WHEREAS, James is survived by his parents, Jim and Mary, siblings, Steven and
Simone de Brueys, Michelle McCrary, and Andre' Cardinale, plus a host of family members
and close friends.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Mr. and Mrs. Jim de Brueys and family for their tireless efforts to preserve the
legacy of their late son, James Clifton de Brueys, by continuation of his good works for the
betterment of the people of the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
acknowledge the courage and dedication of the late James Clifton de Brueys.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Mr. and Mrs. Jim de Brueys.
