A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to study the2 feasibility and costs of widening LA 73 between LA 30 and Interstate 10 in3 Ascension Parish.4 WHEREAS, Ascension Parish is one of the fastest growing parishes in Louisiana,5 having experienced a growth in population of approximately forty percent since the year6 2000 federal decennial census; and7 WHEREAS, the section of LA 73 in Ascension Parish experiences a high volume of8 traffic; and9 WHEREAS, this section of LA 73 experiences daily traffic congestion due to10 development of new residential subdivisions, school traffic to and from Dutchtown High11 School, and travel of plant workers to new industrial developments in the area; and12 WHEREAS, this section of LA 73 runs through the unincorporated area of Geismar13 often requiring local law enforcement to assist residents in exiting their home driveways to14 enter upon LA 73 to travel to work and school.15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby16 urge and request that the Department of Transportation and Development study the17 feasibility and costs of widening LA 73 between LA 30 and Interstate 10 in Ascension18 SCR NO. 61 SLS 12RS-2320 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 Parish, and report its findings and recommendations in a written report to the Senate1 Committee on Transportation, Highways, and Public Works and to the House Committee2 on Transportation, Highways, and Public Works not later than March 1, 2013.3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the4 secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development.5 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Sharon F.
