SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 70

TRANSPORTATION/DEV DEPT. Requests DOTD study four laning LA 73 between LA
30 and I-10 and four laning LA 30 between I-10 and LA 44, all in Ascension Parish.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to study the2
feasibility and costs of the four lane widening of LA 73 between LA 30 and3
Interstate 10 and the four lane widening of LA 30 between Interstate 10 and LA 44,4
all in Ascension Parish.5
WHEREAS, Ascension Parish is one of the fastest growing parishes in Louisiana,6
having experienced a growth in population of approximately forty percent since the year7
2000 federal decennial census; and8
WHEREAS, these sections of LA 73 and LA 30 in Ascension Parish experience high9
volumes of traffic; and10
WHEREAS, this section of LA 73 experiences daily traffic congestion due to11
development of new residential subdivisions, increased retail traffic in and around Tanger12
Factory Mall, school traffic to and from Dutchtown High School, and travel of plant workers13
to new industrial developments in the area; and14
WHEREAS, this section of LA 73 runs through the unincorporated area of Geismar15
often requiring local law enforcement to assist residents in exiting their home driveways to16
enter upon LA 73 to travel to work and to school; and17
WHEREAS, this section of LA 30 experiences traffic congestion from traffic18 SCR NO. 70

traveling to and from the Tanger Factory Mall and many other subsidiary stores and hotels,1
and the travel of plant workers to and from industrial and various chemical enterprises in the2
area.3
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby4
urge and request that the Department of Transportation and Development study the5
feasibility and costs of the four lane widening of LA 73 between LA 30 and Interstate 10 and6
the four lane widening of LA 30 between Interstate 10 and LA 44, all in Ascension Parish,7
and report its findings and recommendations in a written report to the Senate Committee on8
Transportation, Highways, and Public Works and to the House Committee on9
Transportation, Highways, and Public Works not later than March 1, 2013.10
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the11
secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development.12
