Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 70 BY SENATOR BROWN AND REPRESENTATIVES BERTHELOT, LAMBERT, PRICE AND SCHEXNAYDER A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to study the feasibility and costs of the four lane widening of LA 73 between LA 30 and Interstate 10 and the four lane widening of LA 30 between Interstate 10 and LA 44, all in Ascension Parish. WHEREAS, Ascension Parish is one of the fastest growing parishes in Louisiana, having experienced a growth in population of approximately forty percent since the year 2000 federal decennial census; and WHEREAS, these sections of LA 73 and LA 30 in Ascension Parish experience high volumes of traffic; and WHEREAS, this section of LA 73 experiences daily traffic congestion due to development of new residential subdivisions, increased retail traffic in and around Tanger Factory Mall, school traffic to and from Dutchtown High School, and travel of plant workers to new industrial developments in the area; and WHEREAS, this section of LA 73 runs through the unincorporated area of Geismar often requiring local law enforcement to assist residents in exiting their home driveways to enter upon LA 73 to travel to work and to school; and WHEREAS, this section of LA 30 experiences traffic congestion from traffic traveling to and from the Tanger Factory Mall and many other subsidiary stores and hotels, and the travel of plant workers to and from industrial and various chemical enterprises in the area. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request that the Department of Transportation and Development study the feasibility and costs of the four lane widening of LA 73 between LA 30 and Interstate 10 and the four lane widening of LA 30 between Interstate 10 and LA 44, all in Ascension Parish, and report its findings and recommendations in a written report to the Senate Committee on Transportation, Highways, and Public Works and to the House Committee on SCR NO. 70 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 Transportation, Highways, and Public Works not later than March 1, 2013. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development.
