Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 111 BY SENATOR MURRAY A RESOLUTION To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Louis Donald Neveu, son, husband, father, brother, friend and Christian. WHEREAS, it is with great sadness and regret that the citizens of Louisiana have learned of the death of Louis Donald Neveu, affectionately known as "Dockey" to his friends and family; and WHEREAS, Louis Donald Neveu was one of seven children born to the union of Fortunet and Elva Neveu; and WHEREAS, Louis Donald Neveu served four years in the military as Sergeant First Class for twenty-three months in the Southwest Pacific during World War II, and after returning home from the war he joined the United States Postal Service and retired in 1982, after thirty-five years of service; and WHEREAS, Louis Donald Neveu was best known for his athletic skills and service to his community as a coach of young people throughout the city of New Orleans. He received all-district, all-city, and all-state awards in three of his high school athletic endeavors (football, basketball and baseball); and WHEREAS, Louis Donald Neveu was a founding member of the Gentilly Warriors Association in which hundreds of boys and girls honed both their athletic and interpersonal social skills under his supervision; and WHEREAS, Louis Donald Neveu also served as a sports broadcaster for many years and is remembered as a co-commentator of high school and other athletic events; and WHEREAS, he was also an avid bridge card player who often placed among the top players in local duplicate bridge play; and SR NO. 111 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, Louis Donald Neveu was a dedicated parishioner to his parish Church of Epiphany, where he was affectionately known as "Mr. Epiphany". Before Hurricane Katrina, he would open the church daily and prepare the altar for Mass, funerals and other services; and WHEREAS, Louis Donald Neveu was also named Holy Name Society's Man of the Year and was awarded the St. Louis Medallion from Archbishop Philip Schulte as a Catholic community leader and role model. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express condolences, on behalf of its members present and past and on behalf of the citizens of the state, to the family of Louis Donald Neveu and acknowledges in doing so the enormity and importance of the difference that his life's work has made in the city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Louis Donald Neveu's wife of sixty-six years, Alida Mason Neveu, his three children, Alida Neveu Ramirez, Donald Neveu and Wayne Neveu, his sisters Gloria Taylor and Sister Bertrand Neveu of the Catholic Sisters of the Holy Family Order and brother, Fortunet "Junior" Neveu.
