A RESOLUTION1 To commend Teri G. Fontenot, president and Chief Executive Officer of Woman's Hospital2 in Baton Rouge, upon her election as chair of the American Hospital Association,3 (AHA) for the year 2012.4 WHEREAS, Ms. Fontenot is the first Louisianian to be elected to lead this venerable5 healthcare organization which represents over five thousand hospitals and health systems6 nationwide; and7 WHEREAS, Ms. Fontenot is only the fourth woman to hold this prestigious position8 in the AHA's one-hundred and fourteen year history; and9 WHEREAS, active at both the state and national level, Ms. Fontenot has served as10 chair of the Louisiana Hospital Association and chairs the board of directors of the LHA's11 Insurance Trust Fund, she held a six-year appointment on the National Institutes of Health12 Advisory Council of Women's Health Research, and served for six years on the Sixth13 District board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank in Atlanta; and14 WHEREAS, Ms. Fontenot's previous involvement with the American Hospital15 Association includes chair of the AHA Health Forum, a member of the AHA Board of16 Trustees, an ex officio member of the Executive Committee, chair of the Operations17 Committee, and as a member of the governing council for the Section for Maternal and Child18 SR NO. 114 SLS 12RS-4253 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 Health; and1 WHEREAS, beginning in 1992 as senior vice president, chief financial officer, and2 treasurer of Woman's Hospital, Ms. Fontenot assumed her current position in 1996; and3 WHEREAS, a University of Mississippi graduate in accounting, Ms. Fontenot4 continued her education at Northeast Louisiana University, now the University of Louisiana5 at Monroe, earning a Masters degree in business administration, also achieving her6 designation as a certified public accountant; and7 WHEREAS, throughout her career Ms. Fontenot has garnered many honors,8 including being named a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, she was9 named in the inaugural list of the "Top 25 Women in Healthcare" by Modern Healthcare10 magazine in 2005, was the only honoree from Louisiana in the "2011 Top 100 Most11 Influential People in Healthcare", and she was a 2011 inductee into the Louisiana State12 University E. J. Ourso College of Business Hall of Distinction; and13 WHEREAS, Ms. Fontenot sees 2012 as a "pivotal year for healthcare delivery" in14 the United States, with much depending upon the Supreme Court decision regarding the15 Affordable Care Act and its considerable impact on hospitals and physicians; and16 WHEREAS, Ms. Fontenot has led Woman's Hospital for sixteen years, fostering its17 mission of delivering all healthcare needs for women and newborns and has overseen the18 design and building of a new state-of-the-art Woman's Hospital, which opens this summer.19 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana20 does hereby commend Teri G. Fontenot, president and CEO of Woman's Hospital in Baton21 Rouge upon her election as chair of the American Hospital Association for the year 2012.22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Ms.23 Teri G.
