Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 114 BY SENATORS BUFFINGTON AND CLAITOR A RESOLUTION To commend Teri G. Fontenot, president and Chief Executive Officer of Woman's Hospital in Baton Rouge, upon her election as chair of the American Hospital Association, (AHA) for the year 2012. WHEREAS, Ms. Fontenot is the first Louisianian to be elected to lead this venerable healthcare organization which represents over five thousand hospitals and health systems nationwide; and WHEREAS, Ms. Fontenot is only the fourth woman to hold this prestigious position in the AHA's one-hundred and fourteen year history; and WHEREAS, active at both the state and national level, Ms. Fontenot has served as chair of the Louisiana Hospital Association and chairs the board of directors of the LHA's Insurance Trust Fund, she held a six-year appointment on the National Institutes of Health Advisory Council of Women's Health Research, and served for six years on the Sixth District board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank in Atlanta; and WHEREAS, Ms. Fontenot's previous involvement with the American Hospital Association includes chair of the AHA Health Forum, a member of the AHA Board of Trustees, an ex officio member of the Executive Committee, chair of the Operations Committee, and as a member of the governing council for the Section for Maternal and Child Health; and WHEREAS, beginning in 1992 as senior vice president, chief financial officer, and treasurer of Woman's Hospital, Ms. Fontenot assumed her current position in 1996; and WHEREAS, a University of Mississippi graduate in accounting, Ms. Fontenot continued her education at Northeast Louisiana University, now the University of Louisiana at Monroe, earning a Masters degree in business administration, also achieving her designation as a certified public accountant; and SR NO. 114 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, throughout her career Ms. Fontenot has garnered many honors, including being named a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, she was named in the inaugural list of the "Top 25 Women in Healthcare" by Modern Healthcare magazine in 2005, was the only honoree from Louisiana in the "2011 Top 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare", and she was a 2011 inductee into the Louisiana State University E. J. Ourso College of Business Hall of Distinction; and WHEREAS, Ms. Fontenot sees 2012 as a "pivotal year for healthcare delivery" in the United States, with much depending upon the Supreme Court decision regarding the Affordable Care Act and its considerable impact on hospitals and physicians; and WHEREAS, Ms. Fontenot has led Woman's Hospital for sixteen years, fostering its mission of delivering all healthcare needs for women and newborns and has overseen the design and building of a new state-of-the-art Woman's Hospital, which opens this summer. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Teri G. Fontenot, president and CEO of Woman's Hospital in Baton Rouge upon her election as chair of the American Hospital Association for the year 2012. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Ms. Teri G. Fontenot. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
