Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 126 BY SENATOR JOHNS A RESOLUTION To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of John Emmett Boagni Jr. WHEREAS, it is with great regret that the citizens of Louisiana have learned of the death of John E. Boagni Jr. on May 1, 2012, at the age of eighty-seven; and WHEREAS, he was a native and resident of Opelousas, Louisiana, and was a graduate of Opelousas High School "War Class" of 1942 and a 1949 graduate of Louisiana State University, College of Engineering; and WHEREAS, he served his state and his country in the United States Navy with the Seabees during World War II, serving more than two years in the South Pacific, principally in the Marshal and Mariana Islands with the 67 th U.S.N. Construction Battalion; and WHEREAS, he was a licensed professional Civil Engineer and Land Surveyor, who was retired from the Louisiana State Department of Transportation and Development as Director of Maintenance and Field Operations after serving more than three decades in various engineering and administrative positions throughout the span of his career; and WHEREAS, John Emmett Boagni Jr. was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, Southeastern Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, Louisiana Society of Professional Engineers in Civil Service, and the Louisiana Highways Engineers Association; and WHEREAS, he will be remembered for his creativity, integrity, bravery, courage, and leadership skills; was a very skillful engineer; and was also gifted in the areas of computer science, photography, woodworking and painting; and WHEREAS, John Emmett Boagni Jr. was an exemplary and highly admired citizen of Louisiana who worked tirelessly on a multitude of business, civic, and political causes throughout his life; and WHEREAS, upon his death the world lost a unique individual who left an indelible mark upon the lives of all those who knew him; and SR NO. 126 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, because of his numerous accomplishments in public and private life, the death of John Emmett Boagni Jr. has left a void in the state and in our country and has created a genuine sense of profound sorrow in his friends and family; and WHEREAS, he was a loving, devoted husband to Fleta Theresa Hollier Boagni for sixty-four years and a dedicated father, a committed grandfather and great grandfather whose love of family was of utmost importance in his life; and WHEREAS, the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana honors this extraordinary man who shall forever be remembered, and pays tribute to his remarkable legacy that shall live in the hearts of the many people whose lives he touched. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby honor the life of John Emmett Boagni Jr. and expresses its sincere condolences to his family upon the occasion of his death. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the family of John Emmett Boagni Jr. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
