Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 144 BY SENATOR PERRY A RESOLUTION To commend the city of Abbeville on being named the state winner in the Louisiana Garden Club Federation's Cleanest City Contest. WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the city of Abbeville on being named state winner in the Cleanest City Contest, and for being such a great reflection on the state of Louisiana; and WHEREAS, in 1958, the Louisiana Garden Club Federation was first among members of the National Garden Clubs, Inc., to sponsor a statewide Cleanest City Contest; and WHEREAS, the aim of the contest is to instill civic pride in the individual citizens and thus improve the appearance of towns and cities; and WHEREAS, each year the competition has become stronger, and the cities and towns have achieved higher and higher standards of cleanliness; and WHEREAS, each municipality that competes in the contest must be sponsored by a garden club; and WHEREAS, Abbeville has a garden club that is twenty members strong; and WHEREAS, in 2012, Abbeville was awarded the distinguished designation of Cleanest City by the Louisiana Garden Club Federation, Inc.; and WHEREAS, it was a tremendous effort by everyone involved, which included a lot of volunteers, city workers, local Girl and Boy Scouts, the Abbeville Garden Club, the Keep Abbeville Beautiful initiative, the Cleanest City chairperson, Todd Travasos, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff, Mike Couvillion, the Abbeville Police Chief, Tony Hardy, the Vermilion Parish Police Jury, the mayor of Abbeville, Mark Piazza, the Abbeville city council Francis Touchet, Frank Plaisance, Brady Broussard Jr., Louis Joe Hardy and Wayne Landry, and a host of others. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the city of Abbeville on being named state winner in the Cleanest City Contest, and for being such a great reflection on the state of Louisiana.
