Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 154 BY SENATOR THOMPSON A RESOLUTION To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Ruby Mae Williams Washington. WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington was born to Icile and Ruby Williams on July 4, 1930, in Union, Mississippi; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington was raised by her grandparents, William H. and Lillie L. Bostick, in Zwolle, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington became a member of St. John Baptist Church of Zwolle at a very young age, having professed her faith in Christ; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington later moved to Monroe, Louisiana, where she became a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington left Monroe to attend Southern University in Baton Rouge, receiving a degree in library science in May, 1953; and WHEREAS, upon returning to Monroe, Mrs. Washington met and married Garfield Washington Jr. on April 14, 1954; and WHEREAS, the Washingtons became the proud parents of a lovely and gifted daughter, Angela Denise Washington; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington was employed as a librarian in the Alto and Start high schools in Richland Parish for thirty years; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington was a life member of Southern University Alumni Monroe Federation Chapter and served as secretary of the Samoan's Civic and Social Club in Monroe; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington was preceded in death by her husband and is survived by her dearest daughter, Angela Denise Washington Mayo, wife of the Honorable James "Jamie" E. Mayo, mayor of Monroe, two grandchildren, Jared Brandon Mayo and Ashley Denise Mayo, and one great grandson, Tyler Alexander Williams; and SR NO. 154 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington, having lived a life of love and service to her family and community, will be greatly missed by her family and many relatives and friends. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere condolences upon the death of Ruby Mae Williams Washington. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Angela Denise Washington Mayo, in Monroe, Louisiana. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
