Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 169 BY SENATOR PETERSON A RESOLUTION To commend Ms. Bobbie Smith of New Orleans, Louisiana, upon her receipt of the 2012 Mary Steibel CAREGiver of the Year Award in recognition of her outstanding work with senior adults. WHEREAS, it is with great sense of purpose that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does recognize Bobbie Smith for the sincere concern that she exhibits toward the seniors placed in her care and her continuing efforts to improve the lives of older Americans; and WHEREAS, Bobbie Smith has been involved in the care of others since childhood, when she assisted her grandparents who visited and tended to the elderly in their community; and WHEREAS, during her professional career of caregiving, Bobbie Smith was director of the E. J. Morris Senior Citizens Center in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans; and WHEREAS, Ms. Smith has a very successful approach in that she first establishes a personal relationship with the client and then interacts with that elderly person to provide daily living assistance; and WHEREAS, Ms. Smith was nominated for her many positive traits that include humor, warmth, spirituality, composure, and loving attitude; and WHEREAS, she received national recognition for her work in April of this year, the Mary Steibel CAREGiver of the Year Award, at the Home Instead Senior Care International Convention in Omaha, Nebraska; selected from 65,000 nominees from the United States and abroad; and WHEREAS, Bobbie Smith continues to encourage, assist, and stimulate her clients in a variety of activities that improves their quality of life and helps them maintain independence while living safely and comfortably in their own residences for as long as possible; and SR NO. 169 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, Bobbie Smith strives to enhance the quality of life for seniors, to encourage them to stay as active as possible, and to bring some happiness to each client whose life she touches; and WHEREAS, Bobbie Smith promotes a positive image of aging and brings joy and comfort to all of her contacts; even in death, she assures them that they are loved and are not alone; and WHEREAS, in her daily devotions Bobbie Smith gives thanks to her creator for the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life, to give comfort and a sense of peace to others, and to radiate God's love; and WHEREAS, Bobbie Smith is a working senior citizen, herself, who believes in the ethic that "Work is easy when you love what you do", which makes her life all the more extraordinary. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Ms. Bobbie Smith upon her receipt of the Mary Steibel CAREGiver of the Year Award for her service to older adults in the Home Instead Senior Care network. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Ms. Bobbie Smith. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
