Commends Jacqui Vines, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cox Louisiana, for her work, support, and commitment to the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation and the development and advancement of women and children in Louisiana. A RESOLUTION1 To commend and congratulate Jacqueline "Jacqui" Vines, Senior Vice President and General2 Manager of Cox Louisiana, for her work, support, and commitment to the Louisiana3 Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation and her commitment to the development4 and advancement of women and children in Louisiana and to extend best wishes for5 continued success in her new position.6 WHEREAS, Jacqui Vines serves as Senior Vice President and General Manager for7 Cox Louisiana, a company with a $65 million payroll, 1,600 local employees, and more than8 half a million customers; and 9 WHEREAS, in January 2013 she will take the helm of Cox's Southeast Region, a10 combined Louisiana, Florida and Georgia system; and11 WHEREAS, Jacqui Vines' new title reflects her influential role in the company and12 region as during her twenty-eight year career in the telecommunications industry, she has13 served in a succession of leadership roles of increasing responsibility; and14 WHEREAS, she holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and15 Management from the University of Redlands; and16 WHEREAS, Jacqui Vines' career began with Time Warner Cable in Dublin, Ohio,17 in 1984 as a receptionist and she rose through the ranks to become manager of Employee18 SR NO. 170 SLS 12RS-5483 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 4 Relations and Recruiting for both the corporate and divisional facilities; and1 WHEREAS, in 1992, she was employed by Cox to serve as its Director of Human2 Resources in New Orleans and then as Vice President of Human Resources in San Diego,3 California, from October 1995 until her arrival back in Baton Rouge; and4 WHEREAS, in 2000, Jacqui Vines became Vice President and General Manager of5 Cox Baton Rouge and led a $97 million upgrade that increased technology levels throughout6 the system and gave urban and rural markets access to over 270 channels of programming7 through a unified channel line-up; and8 WHEREAS, in 2006, she led Cox's merger of the six-parish Acadiana system into9 the Baton Rouge market to form Cox Greater Louisiana and in 2009 integrated Cox's10 four-parish New Orleans system with the Acadiana and Baton Rouge systems to form one11 Cox Louisiana; and12 WHEREAS, under Jacqui Vines' stewardship, Cox has demonstrated an unwavering13 commitment to the state of Louisiana and the communities it serves with diversity, economic14 development, and education as the cornerstones of its corporate giving initiatives; and15 WHEREAS, Cox donates hundreds of thousands of dollars annually to charitable16 organizations across the state and has made multi-million dollar donations to Louisiana State17 University, Southern University and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette; and18 WHEREAS, Jacqui Vines is a member of the Baton Rouge Rotary, the Committee19 of 100; is the president of the La Capitale Chapter of The Links, Inc.; and is a member of20 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Women in Cable and Telecommunications (WICT) and21 the National Association of Minorities in Cable (NAMIC); and22 WHEREAS, she serves on the boards of the Louisiana Cable Telecommunications23 Association, Greater New Orleans, Inc., Business Council of New Orleans; is a member of24 Regions Bank Regional Advisory Board; and was appointed by the Baton Rouge Area25 Foundation to The Water Institute of the Gulf, a not-for-profit, independent research institute26 dedicated to advancing the understanding of coastal and deltaic systems and applying this27 knowledge for the benefit of society; and28 WHEREAS, Jacqui Vines is a past member of Cox's national Diversity Council and29 Blueprint Louisiana and is a past member of the boards of Louisiana State University's Tiger30 SR NO. 170 SLS 12RS-5483 ORIGINAL Page 3 of 4 Athletic Foundation (TAF), the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, and the Baton Rouge Area1 Foundation; and2 WHEREAS, she also served as chair of the Louisiana Cable Telecommunications3 Association (LCTA) and on a special commission empaneled by Governor Jindal in 20114 to study and make recommendations on the state's higher education system; and5 WHEREAS, while she has committed her personal time to numerous local, state,6 national, community and professional organizations, her commitment to the women and7 children of the state of Louisiana remains her passion; and8 WHEREAS, Jacqui Vines is an ardent advocate for children in the state's foster care9 system as, at the age of thirteen, she entered the state of Connecticut's foster care system, at10 age sixteen, began a journey to find her own foster parents; and thirty years later, became11 a foster and then an adoptive parent as she fostered and, in 2009, adopted three biological12 sisters: Raven, Maya and Breyaunna; and13 WHEREAS, she was chosen by NBC Universal and USA Networks in 2009 to14 participate in the "The Moth", program in which she appeared on stage as one of five15 storytellers with Angela Bassett sharing personal stories of overcoming racism and bias and16 she continues to share her story on a local and national level; and17 WHEREAS, Jacqui Vines has received numerous honors, individually and on behalf18 of Cox, including the 2011 Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus, Women of Excellence19 Award in the category of media and public relations; 2011 New Orleans City Business,20 Woman of the Year nominee; 2011, 2010, 2009, and 2008 Most Influential Minorities in21 Cable by Cable360 magazine; 2010 Virgil Evans Award for Lifetime Achievement by22 Louisiana Cable Telecommunications Association; 2010 Corporate Philanthropy Award by23 the Association of Fundraising Professionals - New Orleans chapter; 2010 Large Company24 of the Year by the Ascension Chamber of Commerce; 2007 Corporate Philanthropy Award25 by the Association of Fundraising Professionals - Baton Rouge chapter; 2006 ESPN Good26 Sports Award for Community Service - Football, Food & Families; 200627 Brotherhood/Sisterhood Award by the 100 Black Men of Baton Rouge; 2006 Broadcast &28 Cable magazine's system of the Year for Greater Louisiana;
