SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 65
BY SENATOR PERRY 
A RESOLUTION
To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the
death of David Ortemond Jr.
WHEREAS, a native of Abbeville, Louisiana and life-long resident of Louisiana, Mr.
Ortemond was a graduate of Erath High School and held a bachelor's degree from the
University of Louisiana at Lafayette; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ortemond played linebacker for the University of Louisiana at
Lafayette on the football team from 1990 to 1994; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ortemond was a member of the Granite State semi-pro football
team from 1996 to 1997; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ortemond began his working career with Mar-Con, Inc., an oilfield
company founded by his father, Leon D. Ortemond Sr. from 1996 through 2003, he held
numerous positions as director of transportation, personnel, marine division supervisor, and
yard supervisor with Mar-Con, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, from 2003 until the time of his death, he worked side by side with his
father, and family members as marine manager with D & L Salvage and other Marine
Family of Companies; and
WHEREAS, his advocation and enthusiasm for offshore powerboat racing gained
him high recognition and admiration in the sport through the Gulf south; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ortemond was an active member of the Florida Powerboat Club
and maintained a focus on the technical advancement and development of the power boating
and marine industry; and
WHEREAS, he thrived on being a perfectionist not only in the passion of power
boating but also with his family, friends and his general life; and SR NO. 65	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, Mr. Ortemond possessed a true zest for life and steadfast commitment
to his family especially his adoring nieces; and
WHEREAS, with an impact on so many lives, there seemingly was no stranger Mr.
Ortemond did not know; and
WHEREAS, with a positive and giving spirit, it was evident by all who knew him,
that he garnered much love and respect; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ortemond is survived by his fiancée, Sandy Patout, his mother,
Diana Romero Ortemond, a brother, Lance David Ortemond and his wife Kelly, his sister,
Christina Franques and her husband Andre, six nieces Mary Catherine, Anna Grace, Jeanne
Claire, Caroline Elizabeth, Laura Anne, and Catherine Clare; and
WHEREAS, he entered his heavenly life along with his father, Leon D. Ortemond
Sr., and was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Laura Leblanc Romero and
Frank F. Romero; and
WHEREAS, all who knew, met and loved David Ortemond Jr. will remember his
smile, dedication to work and family, his strength and encouraging words, and loving spirit.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of David Ortemond
Jr. and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that this wonderful
man will forever bring to his family, fiancée, nieces, and numerous friends.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
family of Mr. David Ortemond Jr.
