Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 79 BY SENATOR PEACOCK A RESOLUTION To commend Kathleen "Kathy" Barberousse on a distinguished career as an educator, to recognize her contributions to the children and educational system of Caddo Parish, and to designate Friday, April 27, 2012, as Kathleen "Kathy" Barberousse Day. WHEREAS, Kathleen "Kathy" Barberousse was born May 9, 1951, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the oldest of six siblings and daughter of Frances Peavy Stroker and Eugene William Stroker; and WHEREAS, she attended Northwestern State University; graduated from Louisiana State University in Shreveport with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1975; obtained her Masters of Education from Louisiana State University at Shreveport in 1980; and attained her +30 Degree and Certification as Provisional Principal and Instructional Supervisor from Louisiana State University at Shreveport in 1996; and WHEREAS, Kathy Barberousse has served over thirty-six years in the Caddo Parish School System, completing her first day of teaching on December 17, 1975, as a 2nd/3rd grade teacher at Eighty-First Elementary School in Shreveport, and then teaching and serving as the Language Enrichment Teacher at South Highlands Elementary Magnet; the Instructional Coordinator and Assistant Principal at University Elementary School; and completing her lifelong commitment to education and our children by serving as Principal of Fairfield Elementary Magnet; and WHEREAS, Kathy Barberousse has tirelessly served our community as an LSUS Alumni Board Member, secretary and president; St. Elizabeth Ann Seton's Catholic Church as a member and president of Parish Council and Director of Religious Education; made countless community project contributions including Shreveport Community Renewal, Shreveport Green, St. Jude's Math-a-thon, Girl Scout Leader and Boy Scout Leader; and SR NO. 79 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 assisted local, district and state PTA organizations; and WHEREAS, Kathy Barberousse led Fairfield Elementary Magnet from an underperforming neighborhood school to a five-star school during her time as principal; oversaw the building of a new library, an eight classroom wing, and a million dollar elevator and drainage project; and WHEREAS, Kathy Barberousse is known lovingly to her students, families, and faculty, past and present, as "Ms. B"; knows all of her students by name; represents all that an educator should be and has dedicated her life to making a positive difference in the lives of children in the Caddo Parish School System; and WHEREAS, Ms. B is retiring at the end of this 2012 school year after over thirty-six years of dedicated service to thousands of children and families as a mentor, a teacher, a friend, a cheerleader, a comforter, a fair disciplinarian, a servant leader, a true model of genuine excellence in education. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Kathleen "Kathy" Barberousse on a distinguished career as an educator, recognize her contributions to the children and educational system of Caddo Parish, and designate Friday, April 27, 2012, as Kathleen "Kathy" Barberousse Day. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Kathy Barberousse. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
