Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 86 BY SENATOR APPEL A RESOLUTION To commend the Ambassador of the Republic of Hungary to the United States of America, György Szapáry, and to welcome him to the Louisiana Senate. WHEREAS, upon the occasion of his visit to Louisiana, it is appropriate to commend and welcome György Szapáry of Hungary; and WHEREAS, Mr. Szapáry is an economist by trade with extensive experience in international finance and banking; and WHEREAS, he was born into a prominent family in Tiszabura, Hungary, and is the grandson of a former prime minister of Hungary; and WHEREAS, he holds a master's degree and a doctorate in economics from the University of Louvain in Belgium; and WHEREAS, he began his career as a research assistant at the University of Louvain in 1962 and, subsequently, held executive positions with several prestigious international financial organizations including the European Commission, the International Monetary Fund, the National Bank of Hungary, and OTP Bank in Hungary; and WHEREAS, Mr. Szapáry was also the alternate governor for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, president of the Board of Directors for the International Training Centre for Bankers in Budapest, a board member of the Budapest Commodity Exchange; president of the Foundation for Enterprise Promotion for the Hungarian province of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, a member of the Economic and Financial Committee of the European Commission and of the European Central Bank's International Relations Committee, and a member of the Hungarian Economic Social Council; and WHEREAS, he has been a member of the Advisory Council for the European Studies Foundation in Budapest since 2002, a member of the Euro 50 Group since 2001, a member of the Gyula Andrássy Foundation in Budapest since 2006, and a member of a steering group on public finances for the European Commission in Brussels; and SR NO. 86 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, in January 2011, he was appointed Hungarian Ambassador to the United States of America; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate that a special measure of commendation be extended to György Szapáry as he is welcomed with the utmost admiration and respect to the Louisiana Senate. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend György Szapáry for his outstanding contributions to the international banking and finance industry, welcomes him to the Louisiana Senate, and extends to him best wishes for continued success and happiness in all future endeavors. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to György Szapáry. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
